A story of an unwavering mind-set to be able to create beautiful wines. Wines where each bottle echos her fingerprint, personality and passion. A passion that is bold yet feminine!
Sauvignon Blanc 2019R120.00
The Sauvignon blanc 2018 has an inviting summer expression on the nose. Lots of limes, ripe figs and just a drop of ripe passion fruit. The palate entrance is clean and zesty. Flavors of figs, passion fruit and limes fills the mouth whiles the mid-palate shows the concentration and depth of fruit. The zesty lime is alleviated by the creamy texture of the wine. A real refreshing wine with great balance of all components and a linger that is true to the Sauvignon Blanc varietal.
This wine is a beautiful example of Merlot from South African soil types and climatic conditions. The wine has power and elegance yet shows a fusion of berry-like flavors with depth of character. Celebrating each growing season through highlighting the attributes that Mother Nature give us with each vintage. Our work is to accentuate the positive attributes of the specific year and display these characteristics in full to the wine lover. Each bottle of Carmen Stevens wines truly handmade and we are committed to only using plant derived additives that ensure our wines can be enjoyed by all.
We source our fruit from a range of grape growing regions that has exceptional vineyards. This enable us to celebrating the array of soil types of South Africa, each adding its own unique touch to our wines. Individual small batches of wines are handmade and blended later to heighten what we strive to showcase of each vintage.
The Company and Carmen Stevens:
Carmen Stevens Wines was established in 2011 with our maiden vintage in 2014. Carmen Stevens have been involved in the South African Wine Industry since qualifying in 1995. Carmen graduated as the first black South African to study the art of winemaking in South Africa. In January 2019 Carmen registered the first 100% black owned winery in South Africa in the picturise Stellenbosch.
Our Label and the meaning:
Our label display a “tiger” on closer inspection three figures are seen.
A man on the right side of the “tiger”, a bird with a red beak on the left side of the “tiger” and a face of a dog between the man and the bird all taken together by the body and colour of the “tiger”.
Our label is an expression of how different people experience wine. Some people pick up a glass and identify all characteristic immediately while others take time to “see” all the wine is expressing in the glass.
The “Tiger” is very special to me. My eldest daughter, Caitlin, painted “tiger” at school when she was only 6 years old and I love it!
The Carmen Stevens NPO
In 2011 we started providing a cup of soup three times a week to primary school learners in Belhar. From the age of 13 Carmen lived in this community and are well aware that a huge percentage of school learners go without food most days. The Belhar community is just a 7 minutes’ drive from Cape Town International Airport and 15 minutes’ drive from the picturistic Stellenbosch. The community of Belhar has always had a high unemployment rate and the children are the ones that suffer the most under such circumstances. When we started the soup kitchen we could only afford to provide 400-500 learners a cup of soup 3 times a week at 3 schools. Today, 2019 we are providing 10 310 learners from 53 schools in the Western Cape a nutritious breakfast and lunch. This is made possible by very generous donations from the customers (Angels) of Naked Wines. The past 4 years the lives of so many children in the Western Cape have been touched by these amazing people.
Naked Wines is an on-line retailer with a huge Angel/ customer network base. The Angels can select wine from around the world to enjoy. Once a year Naked Wines provide Carmen Stevens NPO with a platform where customers (Angels) can donate to provide two nutritious meals per day to underprivileged children.
